
Cider-Onion Chutney: Sweet, Tangy & Burger’s Best Friend
This cider-onion chutney recipe gives thick, glossy ribbons of onion steeped in cider, making the ultimate condiment for anything off the grill. Spoon over burgers, chops or pulled pork for instant flavour elevation.
Cider-Onion Chutney Recipe Ingredients (Makes ~500 g)
- 3 large red onions, thinly sliced
- 200 ml Pearson’s Dry Cider
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp chilli flakes (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Method
- Sweat onions: In a heavy saucepan over medium heat with a splash of oil, cook onions until soft and translucent.
- Simmer: Add cider, sugar, vinegar, chilli and salt. Reduce gently, stirring occasionally, until mixture is thick and shiny (about 20 minutes).
- Cool & store: Transfer to a jar, chill and let the flavours deepen overnight.
Spoon onto burgers, rack of ribs or even sharp cheddar on crackers.
